Send files from your phone to your PC
Three ways that work, ordered by how little you have to install.
Open ZenShare on your PC, pick the file, and it gives you a link and a QR code. Point your phone's camera at the QR and the transfer starts in the browser. Nothing to install on the phone, and the file never leaves your Wi-Fi.
Method 1: scan a code, use the browser
This is the one to reach for when the phone is not yours, or when you do not want to install anything on it. ZenShare on the PC turns the PC itself into the server, so the phone just opens a web page.
- On the PC, open ZenShare and click Receive / Request File.
- A link and a QR code appear. Point the phone's camera at the QR.
- The phone opens a page with a drop zone. Pick the photos or files.
- They land in
Desktop\ZenShare Receivedon the PC.
It works the other direction too: share a file from the PC and the phone downloads it from the same kind of link.
Method 2: a request link, for sending phone to PC repeatedly
If you move files off the same phone often, open ZenShare on the PC and use Receive / Request File. That gives you a link and a QR code that stay valid for the whole session, so the phone can send file after file without you touching the PC again. Still nothing installed on the phone.
A dedicated Android app is in development and will make this two taps, but it is not on Google Play yet, so it is not what this page recommends today.
Method 3: a cable
Still fine, and still the fastest for very large one-off transfers. It is listed third because it needs the right cable, the phone unlocked, and on Android a file-transfer mode that Windows sometimes refuses to see.
Why not email, chat apps or cloud storage?
Each has a specific failure for this job:

| Bluetooth | Works, but at a fraction of Wi-Fi speed. A 1 GB video is an afternoon. |
Direct transfer skips all of it. The file goes from the phone to the PC across your own network, at whatever speed your Wi-Fi runs at, and no copy is made anywhere else.
Photos at original quality
This is the reason most people go looking for a better method. Messaging apps shrink images to save bandwidth, so the photo on your PC is not the photo on your phone. A direct transfer copies the actual file, EXIF data and all.

Common questions
- Do I need to install anything on the phone?
- No. Scan the QR code and the transfer happens in the phone's browser. Installing the app on both devices is faster if you do this often, but it is optional.
- Does this work with an iPhone?
- Yes. The browser method works on any phone with a camera and a browser, including iPhone, because nothing is installed.
- Do both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
- For the direct method, yes. A phone hotspot works too. ZenShare can also produce a public link that works from anywhere, for when the two devices are not on the same network.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Your PC acts as the server, so the file goes straight from the phone to the PC. There is no cloud storage in the middle and no copy left behind.
